Ixia Licensing
IxLoad 8.50 EA also requires that a license to be installed for each chassis used by IxLoad. That license may be installed on each chassis or on a server on your network, referred to as the central license server. IxLoad 8.50 EA ships with Ixia Licensing 5.10 EA. Some of the key benefits of this new licensing system are: - Simplified activation procedure - Improves offline activation using Request files - Enhanced Host ID calculation to increase uniqueness of Host IDs - Allows remote activation of licenses - Allows configuration of Proxy settings For further information about the new IxLicensing system, please refer to the "Ixia Licensing Management User Guide" provided with the software and downloadable from the Ixia web site.Installing a License
Ixia Licensing 5.10 EA upgrades Ixia Licensing 3.x, Ixia Licensing 4.40.x and prior versions on the machines. The reverse is not allowed. Upgrade can be performed for following scenarios: - Ixia Registration Utility (IRU) to Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) - Old version of Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) to the latest version of Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) In case of IRU to ILU upgrade, ILU will overwrite IRU and its registration numbers will be migrated as activation codes in ILU. During install, the system checks the connectivity with Ixia Licensing web servers. Based on the connectivity, the migration can be performed using following methods: - Online Migration - Offline Migration Ixia Licensing 5.10 EA installs: - Mono runtime version 3.8.0 on IxOS Native Chassis - .Net 4.0 on IxOS Windows Chassis - .Net 4.5.1 on Clients and IxLoad VE Chassis. NOTE: Ixia Licensing 5.10 EA installs .Net 4.5.1 on client machines. If an older release of an Ixia product containing .Net 4.0 hotfix is installed on top of this release, .Net 4.0 hotfix installation may fail. To fix this, uninstall .Net 4.5.1 and reinstall the older release of Ixia product and then modify this release of Ixia Licensing.
IxLoad has two components: (1) the 'chassis' component needs to be installed on the Ixia chassis being used; (2) the 'client' component needs to be installed on the user workstation where the IxLoad GUI will be run.(1) Chassis Component Installation
Installation on Windows OS based chassis
After successful installation of IxOS Server application you need to install IxLoad Chassis component found on the DVD or on the IxLoad Downloads And Update site. NOTE: The IxLoad Client component cannot be installed on the Ixia Chassis.XGS12-HS and XGS2-HS chassis
In order to install IxLoad 8.50 on a XGS-HS or XGS-SD chassis the operating system running on the controller must be updated to FLIX OS 2018.1.0.3. The update procedure is described in the document named "FLIX OS Upgrade Guide (PDF)" available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site.Installation on XGS12-HSL and XGS2-HSL chassis
Starting from IxLoad 8.13 EA, the XGS2-HS, XGS12-HS chassis can optionally be converted to run Native IxOS, for improved stability and performance. The conversion removes the Microsoft Windows OS, and replaces it with IxOS running natively on the chassis (over Linux OS). Once complete, the chassis are effectively converted to XGS2-HSL and XGS12-HSL. For more information, including the conversion process procedure, please download and read the "Converting XGS and PSOne to Native IxOS (PDF)" document available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site.Installation on XGS12-SDL and XGS2-SDL chassis
Starting from IxLoad 8.40 EA, the XGS2-SD, XGS12-SD chassis can optionally be converted to run Native IxOS, for improved stability and performance. The conversion removes the Microsoft Windows OS, and replaces it with IxOS running natively on the chassis (over Linux OS). Once complete, the chassis are effectively converted to XGS2-SDL and XGS12-SDL. For more information, including the conversion process procedure, please download and read the "Converting XGS SD to Native IxOS (PDF)" document available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site. NOTE: The IxLoad Chassis component is no longer needed on the Native IxOS chassis.Installation on PSOne or Novus ONE appliance
For PSOne or Novus ONE there are no IxLoad components required to be installed on the appliance. For proper use of the appliance only IxOS must be upgraded to a compatible build.(2) Client Component Installation
Windows OS Prerequisite Installation Notes
As part of the IxLoad installation, the installer program automatically installs the following prerequisites that are coming as separate installers: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5.1. In some situations, a dialog may be displayed notifying you to browse to the specific prerequisites installers' location. You may find them under Prerequisites folder in the root of the DVD or you may download them from Ixia website. To access the prerequisites you must sign-in on www.ixiacom.com site and browse to product installation prerequisites site. If you experience any issue related to the installation of these prerequisites please refer to the below notes: NOTE: During installation you may be presented with a error dialog declaring a 1935 error has occurred. One possible cause is the presence of anti-adware or anti-virus software running on the target machine. Please disable these applications prior to your next installation attempt. NOTE: IxLoad requires Microsoft .NET 4.5.1 and Microsoft .NET 2.0. On some versions of Windows, .NET 2.0. cannot be installed separately and must be manually selected with .Net 3.5. - For Windows 2012: please install it through "Server Manager --> Manage --> Add Roles and Features --> .Net 3.5 Features". - For Windows 8.1: please install it through "Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Turn Windows features on or off--> .NET Framework 3.5". NOTE: In some cases Reporting may not work after IxLoad is installed and the machine is rebooted. This may be because the SQL Server (IXIA2014) service did not start automatically after system reboot due to service timeout. The workaround is to increase the default time-out value for the windows service control manager as provided in the Microsoft link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/922918.Installation on the Windows OS user workstation
If you had a previous version of IxLoad installed, please refer to the section "Installing a License". The IxLoad installer will only install the Client component on the user workstation. In order to run the IxLoad Video test, the user workstation is required to have Windows Media player version 9 or later. IxLoad 8.50 EA requires the user workstation to satisfy the following requirements: Minimum - A dual core CPU - A minimum of 4GB RAM - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space - Run time free disk space should be at least 10GB Recommended - A quad core CPU - A minimum of 8GB RAM - 64 bit Windows Operating System (See Operating System Support below) - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space - Run time free disk space should be at least 10GB Ixia Application Server - Use Case: Multiple IxLoad instances on the single machine and large scale system testing - A quad core CPU - Ixia Application Server running 64 bit Windows 2008/2012 Ultra Server or equivalent - A minimum of 16GB RAM - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space per user - Run time free disk space should be at least 40GB Operating System Support The versions of Windows operating systems that are supported are: - Windows 7 Enterprise (32-bit or 64-bit) SP1 - Windows 7 Professional (32-bit or 64-bit) SP1 - Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit or 64-bit) SP1 - Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32-bit and 64-bit - Windows 10 Pro - Windows 2008 Server SP2 Standard (32-bit or 64-bit) - Windows 2012 Server R2 Standard 64-bit The following Non-English versions of the Windows 8.1 Enterprise operating system are supported: - German - Hebrew - Japanese NOTE: Only English ASCII characters are accepted in input fields in the application or file locations. ---|---|
1480505 | AWS uses a large pool of public IP-ranges that need to be added to the Security-Group for successful communication using Boto3 library (for python) to extract AWS-related information for auto-learning. There is a limitation of AWS as the number of IPs that can be added to a security group is fixed. So all possible IPs for a particular region cannot be allowed. The workaround will be to manually allow public IP/IPs needed by adding it/them in the security group. |
Bug Number | Notes |
---|---|
1462322 | Rerunning an IxLoad test having docroot file (greater than 250MB) after any other configuration changes without doing an release config might have some issues. Explicit release config and applyconfig is recommended. |

Bug Number | Notes |
---|---|
1447581 | On PerfectStorm and CloudStorm cards, on audio+video VoIP scenarios with HardwareRTP enabled and "Allow multiple users per ip:port" option enabled, you cannot achieve CPS value greater than 1. Thus, we recommend the usage of SoftwareRTP for this type of scenarios. |
1463688 | In scenarios in which the HTTP message exceeds 20 headers, you might encounter port instability. |
1463797 | Sometimes, performance tests could remain blocked on voice session execution; trigger errors are reported if voice session outputs are connected with trigger connectors. |
1470154 | Rx Interface - On VoIP scenarios in which the network where is mapped on multiple VE ports and the IP range assigned for RxInterface is defined with more than one IP, an error is thrown when applying configuration on port. This case refers to the VoIPSIP scenarios where VoIPSIPCloud and RxInterface are mapped on different VE cards. |
1470677 | Rx Interface - Port instability may occur on scenarios where "Send Diameter traffic on different VE NIC than VoIPSIPCloud traffic" is enabled and there is an incorrect IP range - L4-7 activity - VE NIC correlation. For example, the VoIPSIPPeer activity associated to the VOIPSIPCloud needs to be the only activity mapped on the VE NIC or can share the same VE NIC with the VoIPSIPCloud activity. The VoIPSIPPeer activity should not share the VE NIC with a HTTP server. |
1470965 | RxInterface - port instability may be reported on incorrect configured scenarios where Rx Interface traffic and SIP cloud are mapped on different IP range/ VE ports and option ”Send Diameter traffic on different VE NIC than VoIPSIPCloud traffic” is unchecked. |
1470996 | On a multi-port scenario, after modifying the order of the IP ranges, the new changes are not reflected in "IP assignment" view. As workaround, it's recommended to remove at least one port and re-assign it to the network to enforce port refreshment. |
1471217 | Ua Ub interface: Once a new TCP connection is established, the HTTP traffic will be sent on this connection and the old TCP connection will not be re-used. |
1472105 | On MultiNIC platforms, IPSec3GPP tunnels cannot be established if the IPSec initiator and IPSec terminator are mapped on the same VE card. |
1477428 | VoWIFI scenarios do not support DCP3 setup. |
1477755 | On VoLTE high performance scenarios, on ramp-down, you might encounter SIP retransmission messages or TCP FIN retransmissions. |
1484103 | For high performance audio+video VoIP scenario we recommend the usage of SoftwareRTP. |
1487480 | On PerfectStorm and CloudStorm platforms, on high performance VoLTE scenarios, one might encounter on ramp-down TCP timeout (which translates in SIP transport errors) given by the fact that there is no sync mechanism between the GTP layer and the VoIPSIPPeer activity. |
Bug Number | Notes |
---|---|

1456400 | Extract AVP option in SmartEvents state-machine is supported only for Diameter interfaces. It is not applicable for Radius, MAP or other simulations. |
1456406 | SmartIE support is not available for the Ga interface. |
1472098 | When trying to load an older Diameter rxf containing the old subscriber database definition, the loading of the file fails and the following error is thrown: "The loaded configuration uses the old subscriber database definition which is not supported starting with IxLoad version [8.40-EA Update1]. Please convert this configuration to the new subscriber database definition using an IxLoad version between 8.30-EA and 8.40-EA." |
1483662 | For Diameter Rx simulations with AAR messages containing the Service-Info-Status AVP, the auth_preliminary and auth_final events should be used in the Commands and SmartProfile sections instead of the auth event. The only exception is the SmartAVP section on the PCRF Rx node where the auth event should be used. |
1490098 | After importing an xml configuration containing a state machine with conditional transactions, when launching the Diameter Editor an "Unknown items" message is displayed and the state machine is configured without the conditional transactions. |
Bug Number | Notes |
---|---|
1379082 | Some of the Trusted WiFi Client stack settings (as those in "Network Plug-in Settings") may not be exported / imported when using Resource Manager. |
1445875 | In specific SWu scenarios, the TCP Syn-SynAck Time Squared statistic might expose negative values. |
1469589 | The Trusted WiFi Client plugin does not send a DHCP Release during the handover procedure. |
1469599 | The Trusted WiFi Client plugin does not send an Accounting Request Stop during the handover procedure. |
1470534 | In WiFi Trusted Client mobility tests, if a handover fails, the traffic continues on the last Access Point the UE was connected to until the next successful handover. |
1471533 | In Trusted WiFi Client mobility tests with the "Accept Duplicate IPs" option enabled, the Analyzer capture exposes TCP packets with hardcoded source or destination IP addresses used for internal communication (eg. 42.32.1.4). |
1473569 | For WiFi Trusted Client mobility tests with UE VLAN change, if the TCP session is active during the handover, the old IP will try to re-establish a TCP session using the new UE VLAN. |
1475602 | WiFi Trusted Client scenarios with mobility and AppLib are not supported. |
1475689 | The WiFi Trusted Client EoL2TPv3 encapsulation relies on the SSID VLAN configuration in order to have a UE traffic VLAN (a SSID VLAN value of 0 means no VLAN). |
1476929 | WiFi Trusted Client scenarios with mobility and TCP based activities might experience TCP RST messages as handovers are not performed seamlessly. To avoid this, for HTTP it is recommended to set the Transaction(s) PER TCP Connection to 1. |
1479574 | Rerunning WiFi Trusted Client mobility tests without releasing configuration for the previous test might result in initial attach to one of the Access Points in the Mobility Path. It is recommended to release configuration between consecutive runs for mobility scenarios. |
1480298 | For WiFi Trusted Client mobility tests, DHCPv4 and DHCPv6 statistics (Enabled Interfaces, Addresses Discovered, Clients Ready, Clients Up) are incremented only for the initial attach, not for handovers. |
1482582 | In WiFi Trusted Client tests with a high number of subscribers and high attach/handover rates running on 100GE Non-Aggregated mode CloudStorm cards, the attach/handover rates might have a spiky or oscillating profile. |
1482939 | For WiFi Trusted Client tests running on 100GE Non-Aggregated mode CloudStorm cards, for a large number of configured subscribers that is not a multiple of 48, it can be observed that the actual ramp-up time takes a few seconds longer than the one computed in the Timeline and Objective section due to the multi-core distribution algorithm. |
1483090 | WiFi Trusted Client high attach rates are impacted if Performance Acceleration is enabled. The most important impact is experienced on CloudStorm modules operating in 100GE Non-Aggregated mode where the maximum attach rate is around 300 UEs/second. |
1485000 | For WiFi Trusted Client EoL2TPv3 throughput tests with IPv6 subscribers and Performance Acceleration enabled, lower throughput than expected might be observed on rare occasions. |
1485564 | WiFi Trusted Client throughput tests should be configured with Simulated Users Test Objective or with Throughput Objective and Simulated Users constraint. |
1486774 | Stopping a WiFi Trusted Client high performance test during ramp up or ramp down might result in port instability. |
Bug Number | Notes |

1479868 | Not all UEs initiate attach procedure when using 4x4 MIMO cell with 2x2 MIMO cells |
1479869 | Downlink throughput values in the Instance Statistics will appear different from Per-Sector Statistics. |
1479957 | Automatic continuous Center Frequency Offset Correction does not work for 5Mhz and 10Mhz bandwidth. If there is a frequency offset correction required, the following manual commands need to be executed: • Open a cmd prompt window on the XGS2/XGS12 chassis • Enter “telnet localhost 17777” command and hit enter • Enter card, port number (card number is the slot number of XAir2 card and port number is 1) • Enter "touch /disableCfo.txt" (This command has to be entered every time XAir is rebooted) Apply the test (make sure to uncheck Reboot Xair option on IxLoad GUI, to retain step 4 change). This will take care of correcting the frequency offset correction detected during startup (only once). |
1479970 | 5MHz SISO mode is not supported under NB-IoT |
1486889 | In rare cases when IxLoad apply config fails, the recommended action is to re-attempt apply config step. |
