Please visit the IxLoad support web page for more information of the previous release notes.

Licensing

Ixia Licensing

IxLoad 9.00 is a licensed product. It ships with Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA. When IxLoad tests are executed on Ixia hardware (appliances or load modules in chassis) a license needs to be installed on each chassis or appliance. In Virtual Environment, the license may be installed on a centralized server in your network. For further information about the new IxLicensing system, please refer to the "Ixia Licensing Management User Guide" provided with the software and downloadable from the Ixia web site.

Installing a License

Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA upgrades Ixia Licensing 3.x, Ixia Licensing 4.40.x and prior versions on the machines. The reverse is not allowed. Upgrade can be performed for following scenarios: - Ixia Registration Utility (IRU) to Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) - Old version of Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) to the latest version of Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) In case of IRU to ILU upgrade, ILU will overwrite IRU and its registration numbers will be migrated as activation codes in ILU. During install, the system checks the connectivity with Ixia Licensing web servers. Based on the connectivity, the migration can be performed using following methods: - Online Migration - Offline Migration Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA installs: - Mono runtime version 3.8.0 on IxOS Native Chassis - .Net 4.0 on IxOS Windows Chassis - .Net 4.5.1 on Clients and IxLoad VE Chassis. NOTE: Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA installs .Net 4.5.1 on client machines. If an older release of an Ixia product containing .Net 4.0 hotfix is installed on top of this release, .Net 4.0 hotfix installation may fail. To fix this, uninstall .Net 4.5.1 and reinstall the older release of Ixia product and then modify this release of Ixia Licensing.

Installation Notes

IxLoad has two components:
(1) the 'chassis'  component needs to be installed on the Ixia chassis being used;
(2) the 'client' component needs to be installed on the user workstation where the IxLoad GUI will be run.

(1) Chassis Component Installation

Installation on Windows OS based chassis

After successful installation of IxOS Server application you need to install IxLoad Chassis component found on the DVD or on the IxLoad Downloads And Update site. NOTE: The IxLoad Client component cannot be installed on the Ixia Chassis.

XGS12-HS and XGS2-HS chassis

In order to install IxLoad 9.00 on a XGS-HS or XGS-SD chassis the operating system running on the controller must be updated to FLIX OS 2018.1.0.3. The update procedure is described in the document named "FLIX OS Upgrade Guide (PDF)" available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site.

Installation on XGS12-HSL and XGS2-HSL chassis

Starting from IxLoad 8.13 EA, the XGS2-HS, XGS12-HS chassis can optionally be converted to run Native IxOS, for improved stability and performance. The conversion removes the Microsoft Windows OS, and replaces it with IxOS running natively on the chassis (over Linux OS). Once complete, the chassis are effectively converted to XGS2-HSL and XGS12-HSL. For more information, including the conversion process procedure, please download and read the "Converting XGS and PSOne to Native IxOS (PDF)" document available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site.

Installation on XGS12-SDL and XGS2-SDL chassis

Starting from IxLoad 8.40 EA, the XGS2-SD, XGS12-SD chassis can optionally be converted to run Native IxOS, for improved stability and performance. The conversion removes the Microsoft Windows OS, and replaces it with IxOS running natively on the chassis (over Linux OS). Once complete, the chassis are effectively converted to XGS2-SDL and XGS12-SDL. For more information, including the conversion process procedure, please download and read the "Converting XGS SD to Native IxOS (PDF)" document available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site. NOTE: The IxLoad Chassis component is no longer needed on the Native IxOS chassis.

Installation on PSOne or Novus ONE appliance

For PSOne or Novus ONE there are no IxLoad components required to be installed on the appliance. For proper use of the appliance only IxOS must be upgraded to a compatible build.

(2) Client Component Installation

Windows OS Prerequisite Installation Notes

As part of the IxLoad installation, the installer program automatically installs the following prerequisites that are coming as separate installers: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5.1. In some situations, a dialog may be displayed notifying you to browse to the specific prerequisites installers' location. You may find them under Prerequisites folder in the root of the DVD or you may download them from Ixia website. To access the prerequisites you must sign-in on www.ixiacom.com site and browse to product installation prerequisites site. If you experience any issue related to the installation of these prerequisites please refer to the below notes: NOTE: During installation you may be presented with a error dialog declaring a 1935 error has occurred. One possible cause is the presence of anti-adware or anti-virus software running on the target machine. Please disable these applications prior to your next installation attempt. NOTE: IxLoad requires Microsoft .NET 4.5.1 and Microsoft .NET 2.0. On some versions of Windows, .NET 2.0. cannot be installed separately and must be manually selected with .Net 3.5. - For Windows 2012: please install it through "Server Manager --> Manage --> Add Roles and Features --> .Net 3.5 Features". - For Windows 8.1: please install it through "Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Turn Windows features on or off--> .NET Framework 3.5". NOTE: In some cases Reporting may not work after IxLoad is installed and the machine is rebooted. This may be because the SQL Server (IXIA2014) service did not start automatically after system reboot due to service timeout. The workaround is to increase the default time-out value for the windows service control manager as provided in the Microsoft link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/922918.

Installation on the Windows OS user workstation

If you had a previous version of IxLoad installed, please refer to the section "Installing a License". The IxLoad installer will only install the Client component on the user workstation. In order to run the IxLoad Video test, the user workstation is required to have Windows Media player version 9 or later. IxLoad 9.00 requires the user workstation to satisfy the following requirements: Minimum - A dual core CPU - A minimum of 4GB RAM - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space - Run time free disk space should be at least 10GB Recommended - A quad core CPU - A minimum of 8GB RAM - 64 bit Windows Operating System (See Operating System Support below) - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space - Run time free disk space should be at least 10GB Ixia Application Server - Use Case: Multiple IxLoad instances on the single machine and large scale system testing - A quad core CPU - Ixia Application Server running 64 bit Windows 2008/2012 Ultra Server or equivalent - A minimum of 16GB RAM - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space per user - Run time free disk space should be at least 40GB Operating System Support The versions of Windows operating systems that are supported are: - Windows 2019 Server Standard 64-bit - Windows 2016 Server Standard 64-bit - Windows 2012 Server R2 Standard 64-bit (*) - Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise 64-bit - Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32-bit and 64-bit (*) - Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 32-bit and 64-bit - Windows 7 SP1 Professional 32-bit and 64-bit - Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit The following Non-English versions of the Windows 8.1 Enterprise operating system are supported: - German - Hebrew - Japanese NOTE: Only English ASCII characters are accepted in input fields in the application or file locations. Deployment of the IxLoad middleware (MW) on Linux

Starting with IxLoad 8.20, the IxLoad MW component can be deployed as a standalone OVA or QCOW2 images running Ubuntu 14.04. - The OVA can be imported in VMWare. - The QCOW2 image is embedded inside a .sh script. This image comes pre-configured with 4 vCPUs and 8 GB RAM - To import the QCOW2 image on KVM, execute IxLoad.sh script. This will extract and deploy the QCOW2 image after accepting the EULA terms. - To import the QCOW2 image on OpenStack follow these steps: - on any Linux environment, run "IxLoad.sh -z". This will extract the QCOW2 image after accepting the EULA terms. - copy and import the QCOW2 image in the OpenStack environment. NOTE: when using OpenStack, the pre-configured CPU and RAM values are not used. It is recommended to specify at least 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM. For further reference please consult the IxLoad on Linux documentation, available from IxLoad (Help section) for custom installation having selected IxLoad Gateway.

IxLoad Reporter database migration from 8.10 EA to newer versions

If before this upgrade, you have been using an IxLoad versions older than IxLoad 8.10 EA then a few manual steps will need to be performed to migrate your Reporter database: - Open a Command Prompt - Navigate in the Command Prompt to the root folder of the IxLoad current version installation (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ixia\IxLoad\< version >\) - Run the reporter_migrate_db_ixload.bat script As a result of this script, the preexisting tests results will be migrated to the current IxLoad Reporter database version.

IxLoad Installer changes

Starting with IxLoad 9.00, running tests with any of the following capabilities: Analyzer, IPSec, SWu, HeNB, S4SWu, Untrusted WiFi Client, FTP Server, Capture Manager (part of AppReplay and IxLoad-Attack) requires installing the corresponding additional packages from IxLoad download page. These packages are required to be installed on top of the regular IxLoad client installation. Also, note that starting with IxLoad 9.00, the following Advanced Timeline configuration modes have been deprecated and cannot be used anymore: Burst, Pulse, Poisson. To run previously built tests with these modes in IxLoad version 9.00 and above, please change the Advanced Timeline to use Linear segments only or switch to Basic Timeline.

AppLibrary installation changes

Starting IxLoad 9.00, AppLibrary Lite version is by default installed with the product. AppLibrary Lite contains basic flows to be used for testing. In order to get the entire AppLib flows database, one needs to install additional AppLibApps.exe package that can be found on DVD or on download page.

Tcl/Tk Support for Client Applications

Tcl 8.5.17.0 is a prerequisite for using the Tcl component of IxLoad. For additional details, please refer to the IxLoad Tcl API User Guide.

The following versions of UNIX/Linux operating systems support IxLoad TCL scripting:
        - Centos 7(32bit or 64bit)
        - Debian 8.1.0(32bit or 64bit)
        - OpenSUSE 13.2(32bit or 64bit)
        - Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (32bit or 64bit)
Other versions of Linux and Solaris platforms may operate properly, but are not officially supported.
Installation of Tcl Server is required to support execution of Linux/UNIX-based Tcl scripts.

Analyzer

Bug Number Notes
1504212 On some setups that have the Symantec antivirus installed opening captures will cause the Wireshark process to be closed
1509167 On some setups, when installing Wireshark from Ixia Website, the user might encounter the error "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-locale-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer". Please make sure that on the system you have the latest Windows updates installed.

Installation

Bug Number Notes
1517511 KB2919355 and KB3172729 updates are mandatory for IxLoad installation on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
1536088 When using both IxLoad and IxNetwork applications installed on the same machine, IxLoad should be installed first to avoid database installation errors.

IxLoad-Data

Bug Number Notes
1495624 Ping frames sent in HTTP2 maybe higher when run on Multinic VE compared to legacy VE.
1499759 If the user has selected Unique/Multiple SSL certificate option with DUT in between the client and the server, then the client IP range on the server side (IP to SSL certificate mapping) has to be configured by the user as the IP range used in the DUT. The IxLoad HTTP server will not check for the validity of this range.
1505121 If client IP to certificate mapping is enabled for Unique/Multiple SSL certificate option, and HTTPS request is generated from such an IP from the client which is not present in the mapping table (in the server side), then it is undefined which server certificate will be selected.
1512148 For TLS version 1.3, the size of 0-RTT Data should not be greater than maximum supported TLS record size in high performance path (which is 4k).
1512939 For TLS version 1.3 and Throughput objective, if test configuration uses HTTP1.0 and PSK resumption mode with Early Data enabled, configured objective value may not be maintained or achieved.
1513211 Sometime RTT stat information may be inaccurate if IP count and SU count diverge significantly.
1514130 Secured ED25519 certificate is not supported .

IxLoad-Infrastructure

Bug Number Notes
1486331 Re-running certain configurations that use custom traffic maps result in Smart Cleaning, instead of entering the 'Running' stage directly.
1494015 On PerfectStorm 40G there is a throughput degradation (compared to IxLoad 8.40-EA) for Wireless simulations. The maximum throughput has decreased from ~38GB to ~36GB.
1499173 Running two consecutive tests from the same IxLoad REST session on the Linux OVA with Analyzer enabled will generate a 'Failed to apply configuration' error
1500520 REST API samples ran on the Linux OVA that have Analyzer enabled and generate large captures files can report 'Test cleanup failed' errors after the test is stopped.
1505939 On some laptops, depending on the screen resolution, the 'Add Activity' menu will not show Voice and Video protocols. This can be fixed by scrolling down to see them or changing the resolution.
1515680 Statistics from the 'Stateless Peer Per Stream Rx' and 'Stateless Peer Per Stream Tx' stat views are not available when running from REST API.

IxLoad-SM-IPsec

Bug Number Notes
1514483 Two or more IPsec plugins with the same role cannot be configured on the same Multi NIC card

IxLoad-Video

Bug Number Notes
1504125 MOS not calculated for traffic received from Youtube real servers.

IxLoad-VoLTE

Bug Number Notes
1502317 After a BYE request triggered by "Automatic End Call" functionality is sent by a VoIP SIP Peer activity under a VoIP SIP Cloud, the 200 Ok response received will be proccessed by the proxy and not dispatched to the peer. VoIP SIP cloud may stop process message after trying to send a SIP message to a VoIP SIP activity running on the same port.
1503434 In case HTTP server abruptly ends the TLS connection (by sending TCP FIN) while UE is still downloading a file from the server, the "RCS File Download Failed" statistic is not incremented. This might be considered a corner case scenario. Typically, in error cases the TCP connection is closed with TCP RST.
1503907 In a test scenario containing multiple APNs if the tst file is saved under a different name, the APN selection in the Command Editor section is reset to the default value (the first configured APN in the APN list).

IxLoad-Voice-Voip

Bug Number Notes
1516883 SIP retransmitted messages may occur when running performance tests that contain MSRP function on CloudStorm card.

IxLoad-Wireless-CUPS

Bug Number Notes
1491015 Packet Forwarding Control Protocol (PFCP) messages are not decoded by IxAnalyzer. Wireshark versions newer than 2.6.0 can be used instead.
1492050 When forcefully stopping a test with the N4 SMF simulator, it will wait for all the sessions to detach. This can lead to a very long ramp down time if detaches are failing with timeout.
1492815 Use 1 TCP connection per user in order to maximize the active UE count with HTTP traffic on PFCP based simulators.

IxLoad-Wireless-EGTP

Bug Number Notes
1497087 In S11/S1-U/S11-U performance tests having a GTPv2 Negative Behavior “Send Error Indication” rule configured on the eNB side, the client peer might experience a reduced number of GTP-u RX Packets Dropped.
1500944 Currently there is a limitation of using two FTP servers on the same Virtual Load Module.
1501450 Only four NetTraffics per Virtual Module Card are supported.
1505892 Users may experience a MME port instability in long duration performance scenarios with Error Indication Negative Testing
1506870 Users may experience a MME port instability when running Echo Request in Subscriber Mode
1508625 Error Indication Statistics are not incremented in tests with UDP Stateless Peer if packet capture is not enabled
1514086 GTP Packets with TEID 0 (e.g. Echo Request/Response, Error Indication, etc) are not processed on Rx side when running on CloudStorm ports.
1515910 In S11/S1-U/S11-U tests with multiple UE ranges, if at least one UE range is configured for GTP and PMIP and at least one other UE range is configured for PMIP only, an error will be returned.
1516411 High performance MME/eNB S11/S1-U/S11-U tests with PMIP APNs configured might experience port failure when stopping the test during sustain time.

IxLoad-Wireless-ENodeB

Bug Number Notes
1445966 When running eNB S1-MME/S1u on VMOne ports, the ports might fail at release config or at reboot time.
1493354 In 100G CloudStorm port mode, HeNB Gateway (Secured) may fail to initialize for large number of tunnels e.g. 48000. The workaround is to reduce the number of tunnels.
1494676 (CIOT) If there are multiple HTTP activities on the same NetTraffic the L4-7 traffic is sent over GTP instead of NAS
1494766 In 100G CloudStorm port mode, HeNB Gateway (Secured) may fail to initialize for large number of tunnels e.g. 48000. The workaround is to reduce the number of tunnels.
1494792 (eNodeB on CloudStorm) The recommended per port S1 Setup Rate for all CloudStorm port modes is 160/s
1495088 In 100G CloudStorm port mode, HeNB Gateway (Secured) may fail with an error when trying to perform HTTP GET Throughput. This behavior is not observed for HTTP PUT.
1495864 HeNB port may fail with an error when trying to attach 1920k UEs with IPv6 or IPv4v6 PDN Type (Using SLAAC for IPv6 address allocation). The workaround is to use PCO for IPv6 address allocation.
1501250 UEs become Connected after SCTP link is up even if they were idle before the SCTP link went down.
1511068 Multiple NetTraffics are not supported using BTrunC stack
1511522 On the B-TrunC eNodeB plugin, if the maximum performance numbers are exceeded in the configuration, the final test result may not be as expected. If this happens, the count for Channels or Ramp Up/Down Value should be decreased.
1512013 The ScriptGen feature (which is used to generate Tcl/Python/Perl scripts from IxLoad) is not working using the BTrunC eNodeB Stack
1513368 On the B-TrunC eNodeB plugin, sometimes, the S1 Setup will not work properly after the assigned ports are changed. The workaround is to run the test a second time.
1513486 The IxReporter feature is not supported when using BTrunC eNodeB plugin.

IxLoad-Wireless-EPC-Diameter

IxLoad-Wireless-HetNets-ENB-LTEUE

Bug Number Notes
1493948 In this release, HetNet scenarios are not supported

IxLoad-Wireless-LTE-Access

Bug Number Notes
1488572 Automatic continuous Center Frequency Offset Correction does not work for 5MHz and 10MHz bandwidth, if there is a frequency offset correction required manual commands needs to done. • Open a cmd prompt window on the XGS2/XGS12 chassis • Enter “telnet localhost 17777” command and hit enter • Enter card, port number (card number is the slot number of XAir2 card and port number is 1) • Enter "touch /disableCfo.txt" (This command has to be entered every time XAir is rebooted) Apply the test (make sure to uncheck Reboot XAir option on IxLoad UI, to retain the change made in the last step above). This will take care of adjusting the frequency offset correction detected during startup (only once).
1494673 Tests with multiple nettraffics may fail to initialize. The workaround is to rerun the test.
1513742 IxLoad Access NSA plugin does not support 4G/5G signaling stats
