Ixia Licensing
IxLoad 9.00 Update4 is a licensed product. It ships with Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA. When IxLoad tests are executed on Ixia hardware (appliances or load modules in chassis) a license needs to be installed on each chassis or appliance. In Virtual Environment, the license may be installed on a centralized server in your network. For further information about the new IxLicensing system, please refer to the "Ixia Licensing Management User Guide" provided with the software and downloadable from the Ixia web site.Installing a License
Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA upgrades Ixia Licensing 3.x, Ixia Licensing 4.40.x and prior versions on the machines. The reverse is not allowed. Upgrade can be performed for following scenarios: - Ixia Registration Utility (IRU) to Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) - Old version of Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) to the latest version of Ixia Licensing Utility (ILU) In case of IRU to ILU upgrade, ILU will overwrite IRU and its registration numbers will be migrated as activation codes in ILU. During install, the system checks the connectivity with Ixia Licensing web servers. Based on the connectivity, the migration can be performed using following methods: - Online Migration - Offline Migration Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA installs: - Mono runtime version 3.8.0 on IxOS Native Chassis - .Net 4.0 on IxOS Windows Chassis - .Net 4.5.1 on Clients and IxLoad VE Chassis. NOTE: Ixia Licensing 5.20 EA installs .Net 4.5.1 on client machines. If an older release of an Ixia product containing .Net 4.0 hotfix is installed on top of this release, .Net 4.0 hotfix installation may fail. To fix this, uninstall .Net 4.5.1 and reinstall the older release of Ixia product and then modify this release of Ixia Licensing.
IxLoad has two components: (1) the 'chassis' component needs to be installed on the Ixia chassis being used; (2) the 'client' component needs to be installed on the user workstation where the IxLoad GUI will be run.(1) Chassis Component Installation
Installation on Windows OS based chassis
After successful installation of IxOS Server application you need to install IxLoad Chassis component found on the DVD or on the IxLoad Downloads And Update site. NOTE: The IxLoad Client component cannot be installed on the Ixia Chassis.XGS12-HS and XGS2-HS chassis
In order to use IxLoad 9.00 Update4 with a XGS-HS or XGS-SD chassis, one needs to install IxOS 9.00 which requires that the operating system running on the controller is FLIX OS 2018.1.0.3.Installation on XGS12-HSL and XGS2-HSL chassis
Starting from IxLoad 8.13 EA, the XGS2-HS, XGS12-HS chassis can optionally be converted to run Native IxOS, for improved stability and performance. The conversion removes the Microsoft Windows OS, and replaces it with IxOS running natively on the chassis (over Linux OS). Once complete, the chassis are effectively converted to XGS2-HSL and XGS12-HSL. For more information, including the conversion process procedure, please download and read the "Converting XGS and PSOne to Native IxOS (PDF)" document available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site.Installation on XGS12-SDL and XGS2-SDL chassis
Starting from IxLoad 8.40 EA, the XGS2-SD, XGS12-SD chassis can optionally be converted to run Native IxOS, for improved stability and performance. The conversion removes the Microsoft Windows OS, and replaces it with IxOS running natively on the chassis (over Linux OS). Once complete, the chassis are effectively converted to XGS2-SDL and XGS12-SDL. For more information, including the conversion process procedure, please download and read the "Converting XGS SD to Native IxOS (PDF)" document available on the IxOS Downloads And Update site. NOTE: The IxLoad Chassis component is no longer needed on the Native IxOS chassis.Installation on PSOne or Novus ONE appliance
For PSOne or Novus ONE there are no IxLoad components required to be installed on the appliance. For proper use of the appliance only IxOS must be upgraded to a compatible build.(2) Client Component Installation
Windows OS Prerequisite Installation Notes
As part of the IxLoad installation, the installer program automatically installs the following prerequisites that are coming as separate installers: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5.1. In some situations, a dialog may be displayed notifying you to browse to the specific prerequisites installers' location. You may find them under Prerequisites folder in the root of the DVD or you may download them from Ixia website. To access the prerequisites you must sign-in on www.ixiacom.com site and browse to product installation prerequisites site. If you experience any issue related to the installation of these prerequisites please refer to the below notes: NOTE: During installation you may be presented with a error dialog declaring a 1935 error has occurred. One possible cause is the presence of anti-adware or anti-virus software running on the target machine. Please disable these applications prior to your next installation attempt. NOTE: IxLoad requires Microsoft .NET 4.5.1 and Microsoft .NET 2.0. On some versions of Windows, .NET 2.0. cannot be installed separately and must be manually selected with .Net 3.5. - For Windows 2012: please install it through "Server Manager --> Manage --> Add Roles and Features --> .Net 3.5 Features". - For Windows 8.1: please install it through "Control Panel --> Programs and Features --> Turn Windows features on or off--> .NET Framework 3.5". NOTE: In some cases Reporting may not work after IxLoad is installed and the machine is rebooted. This may be because the SQL Server (IXIA2014) service did not start automatically after system reboot due to service timeout. The workaround is to increase the default time-out value for the windows service control manager as provided in the Microsoft link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/922918.Installation on the Windows OS user workstation
If you had a previous version of IxLoad installed, please refer to the section "Installing a License". The IxLoad installer will only install the Client component on the user workstation. In order to run the IxLoad Video test, the user workstation is required to have Windows Media player version 9 or later. IxLoad 9.00 Update4 requires the user workstation to satisfy the following requirements: Minimum - A dual core CPU - A minimum of 4GB RAM - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space - Run time free disk space should be at least 10GB Recommended - A quad core CPU - A minimum of 8GB RAM - 64 bit Windows Operating System (See Operating System Support below) - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space - Run time free disk space should be at least 10GB Ixia Application Server - Use Case: Multiple IxLoad instances on the single machine and large scale system testing - A quad core CPU - Ixia Application Server running 64 bit Windows 2008/2012 Ultra Server or equivalent - A minimum of 16GB RAM - 20GB of free disk space to install plus an additional 5GB of temporary space per user - Run time free disk space should be at least 40GB Operating System Support The versions of Windows operating systems that are supported are: - Windows 2019 Server Standard 64-bit - Windows 2016 Server Standard 64-bit - Windows 2012 Server R2 Standard 64-bit (*) - Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise 64-bit - Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32-bit and 64-bit (*) - Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 32-bit and 64-bit - Windows 7 SP1 Professional 32-bit and 64-bit - Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit The following Non-English versions of the Windows 8.1 Enterprise operating system are supported: - German - Hebrew - Japanese NOTE: Only English ASCII characters are accepted in input fields in the application or file locations. The following Non-English versions of the Windows 7 Professional N SP1 operating system are supported: - Chinese Hong Kong - Chinese Simplified - Chinese Taiwan - French - German - Hebrew - Italian - Japanese - Swedish NOTE: Only English ASCII characters are accepted in input fields in the application or file locations. 1497330 | GTPv1 impairment rules applied to incoming messages having TEID = 0 might lead to an occurrence pattern different than configured. This behavior is due to the fact that the impairment rules are applied independently by each core of the underlying architecture. |
1497363 | Resizing the Negative Testing GUI on an IxLoad running in an Windows 7 environment could cause the label of the Message Impairment tab to disappear. Maximizing the IxLoad window will cause the label to reappear. |
1497731 | Outbound message impairment rules applied on a multi-IP (multi-instance) plugin are subject to distribution algorithms: UEs are distributed between the plugin instances and the message impairment occurrence rules are applied independently for each instance. |
1498342 | Message impairment might impact performance tests. |
1501442 | In order to run HTTP 2.0 or AppReplay activities on IxLoad VE, eGTP Control Plane must be disabled. |
1501534 | AppReplay IP command is not supported with Performance Acceleration. Only AppReplay TCP/UDP/Eth commands are supported with Performance Acceleration enabled on the corresponding NetTraffic. |
1504587 | MME/eNB S11/S1-U/S11-U Send Error Indication Negative Testing rule is applied only in the first iteration if multiple iterations are configured and Start/Stop timers are set. For a multiple iteration test, if only Start timer is configured, the rule is applied from the Start timer in iteration 1 until the end of the test. |
1513584 | Drill Down per PDN connection for EGTP tests with a large number of sessions might not display all sessions. |
1513805 | AppLib, StatelessPeer and VoIP activities are not supported in PMIP scenarios on the MME/eNB and SGW S11/S1-U/S11-U plugins. |
1513891 | Only one PMIP APN is supported for each UE Range on the MME/eNB S11/S1-U/S11-U plugin. |
1516893 | In S11/S1-U/S11-U tests having PMIP configured, the EGTP User Plane statistics cumulate GTP and PMIP traffic. |
1519059 | When running on CloudStorm modules in modes 100G Aggregated or 40G Aggregated, GTP messages with teid 0 (e.g. Error Indication, Echo Request/Response) are not correctly routed to the active port. |

1513961 | VoLTE Video tests configured with VLANs for the control plane are failing if ran on PerfectStorm and CloudStorm cards. |
1535227 | TCL is not supported for tests configured with Option 3x. |
1536070 | In Option 3x handover tests, after handover a few packets might still use the IP address of the old gNodeB/eNodeB. |

1472098 | When trying to load an older Diameter rxf containing the old subscriber database definition, the loading of the file fails and the following error is thrown: "The loaded configuration uses the old subscriber database definition which is not supported starting with IxLoad version [8.40-EA Update1]. Please convert this configuration to the new subscriber database definition using an IxLoad version between 8.30-EA and 8.40-EA." |
1478552 | For Diameter simulations "Use remote configuration" option should not be used at node level. Otherwise "[IPC AddToQueue error]Index was outside the bounds of the array" error is thrown in IxLoad GUI when saving the Diameter Editor changes. |
1483662 | For Diameter Rx simulations with AAR messages containing the Service-Info-Status AVP, the auth_preliminary and auth_final events should be used in the Commands and SmartProfile sections instead of the auth event. The only exception is the SmartAVP section on the PCRF Rx node where the auth event should be used. |
1503288 | On PerfectStorm and CloudStorm modules, the value of 1.1 is not supported for TLS Tunnel TLS Version setting under the PEAP/TLS configuration section. The values of 1.0 and 1.2 are supported. |
1537313 | Port failure observed when running Radius tests with MSCHAPv2 Authentication Type on CloudStorm and PerfectStorm cards. On IxLoad VE and Xcellon cards, this does not happen. |

1426823 | The WiFi Trusted Client plugin configured for GRE (not EoGRE) encapsulation will automatically disable Performance Acceleration if configured. |
1489072 | In WiFi Trusted Client high attach rate tests, a spike in the beginning of the ramp up interval followed by smaller oscillations might be observed. |
1491409 | The header “Prefix “ from “Route Advertisement” message is not displayed in Analyzer/Whireshark capture for all Router Advertisement unicast packets or for the first Router Advertisement packet received in case of multicast when the UEs are connected to the same AP. |
1494025 | WiFi Trusted Client high attach rates are impacted if Performance Acceleration is enabled. The most important impact is experienced on CloudStorm modules operating in 100GE Non-Aggregated mode where the maximum attach rate is around 300 UEs/second. |
1495503 | CAPWAP UE attach rate on CloudStorm 40G/100G Non-Aggregated is similar to CloudStorm 10G Non-Aggregated mode. |
1500347 | For WiFi Trusted Client tests in which the sustain time expires while Authentication Request or Accounting Start retries are still performed, those initiated sessions will not be declared as neither successful or failed. |
1500527 | For WiFi Trusted Client Dual Stack tests, it is recommended to set the "Test Options - Network Failure Threshold" to 200%. |
1501687 | WiFi Trusted Client Dual Stack tests with AppLib do not initiate traffic if both IPv4 and IPv6 flows are configured. |
1503917 | In WiFi Trusted Client Dual Stack (DHCPv4 + SLAAC) tests having Performance Acceleration enabled, if IPv6 traffic is initiated in the first approximate 2 seconds of the sustain time, it will be dropped during that period due to Duplicate Address Detection checks. TCP retries might be observed during this period. |
1504325 | WiFi Trusted Client Dual Stack or IPv6 performance tests might experience port failure during the ramp up period. |
1504642 | Relative path support for EAP and EAP-TLS/TTLS Root CA authentication files is not supported when running perl and python scripts. When running python or perl scripts with authentication enabled it is recommended to specify the full path to the authentication files when generating the script |
1504803 | If stopping a high performance WiFi Trusted Client Dual Stack test it is recommended to use the "Graceful Stop" button. |
1504815 | Consecutive WiFi Trusted Client performance tests should run with the "Release Configuration After Test" option enabled or with manual configuration release between tests. |

1525419 | No Resource Manager support for the eMBMS plugins. |
1528963 | For the MME/eNodeB Sm/M1 eMBMS plugin, if an eMBMS eNodeB range is associated to a MME range, eNodeB nodes are distributed round-robin among the MMEs. The eNodeBs might send bundled join requests for multiple multicast addresses (due to the optimization mechanism described in RFC3376) and some of the multicast addresses contained in the join messages might be destined to other configured MMEs than its own. For the eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1 plugin, eNodeB nodes associate to MMEs on the S1AP and M3AP interfaces in a "full mesh" fashion: all eNodeB nodes perform S1 Setup and M3 Setup with all MMEs in the MME Pool. |
1531325 | The eMBMS plugins do not support Dual Address (IPv4v6 type) MCPTT. |
1534787 | TCL is not supported for eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1 plugin. |
1536415 | It is recommended to have a small delay between voice loops in order for the Leave message to be successfully sent. |
1536496 | Release configuration should always be performed between consecutive eMBMS tests and the "Reboot Ports Before Configuring" option should be enabled. |
1537099 | Plugins of types "eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1" and "eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U" should not be configured in the same rxf. |
1537150 | On the eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1 plugin the M1 Sync PDU Type 1 statistics might show values greater than expected. |
1537561 | When running tests on eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1 plugin with multiple eNBs, the RTP QoS received packets will be multiplied by the number of eNBs that sent Join to the same multicast IP address. |
1537607 | In isolated cases, eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1 tests might experience port failure while deconfiguring. |
1537800 | Port instability in load tests with emulated SIP endpoints participate successively in multicast group calls. |
1537929 | It is mandatory to use the same IP Type (IPv4 or IPv6) when running tests on eNodeB S1-MME/S1-U + eMBMS M3/M1 plugin |

1501541 | For VMOne and multiNIC VE chassis administrated via User Management, all ports belonging to the same card must be assigned to the same group because an IxLoad instance needs to take ownership of all ports of the card. |
Bug Number | Notes |
---|---|
1488180 | Rebooting a VE module that was not cleaned properly by the previous test (usually by taking the ownership forcefully) might result in a longer reboot time which may fail a subsequent test. |
1503923 | Allocation of VE resources in User Management groups should be performed either by checking the entire chassis or by clicking port by port, not per card. |
1517819 | In public cloud, emulated router scenarios are not supported. |
